Angela Chen

Angela is a devoted and compassionate chess coach who has plenty of experience teaching children the game of chess. Angela's other hobbies include reading, writing, playing volleyball, and debating. She has also won the Scholastic National Gold Medal for writing. Angela is very passionate about teaching chess and one of her main goals is to expand the game of chess to more girls. Growing up, her brother taught her how to play chess, and every since that day she has been learning more and more from this beautiful game.

NM Alex Chen

Alex reached National Master at the age of 14. As a more experienced player, he is dedicated to bringing chess for EVERYONE regardless of background. Chess has taught Alex so much more than a board game. It taught him life: you win, you lose, and you work harder. Beside chess, Alex has played travel soccer for over eight years and enjoys running for the Green Hope cross country & track/field team . He is truly excited to be apart of this remarkable journey in hopes of serving the community that made him who he is today.

GM Magesh Panchanathan

Magesh has been playing for more than 25 years as a competitive player. He completed his Grandmaster title in the year 2005 by winning the World Open Championship held in Philadelphia, PA. Magesh has more than 8 years of teaching experience for players of all levels, all the way from complete beginners to FIDE Masters. Magesh was also the coach of the Indian team in the World Junior Championship in 2009 in Argentina.

Anuprita is a Women FIDE Master and a FIDE certified Chess Trainer. She has been playing chess for more than 15 years now and has also been an active chess teacher for the past 10 years. Anuprita is currently ranked top 30 among current women players in India and US. Anuprita has also participated in several International chess tournaments all over the world.

Jerry is a rising 8th Grader at Martin Middle School. He started learning chess at the age of 8. He is the top player in North Carolina for his age group and won the NC K-5 State Championship in 2019, the K-12 Triangle Championship in 2020, and the NC K-8 State Championship in 2021. He is excited to share his passion for the game with young chess players and help them excel at it.

Leo Yu has played chess since he was 8. He is self-taught, top 100 rated in NC State, and co-leads the chess club at his school, Cary Academy. He also enjoys violin, computer programming, table tennis, and writing, and has won a Scholastic Art and Writing National Gold Medal for writing. He believes that the analytical, creative, and problem-solving skills important to chess are also applicable to all other activities, as well as academics and life in general.
